遭開除的前兩天，還與球團高層針對新球季進行戰力佈局討論，湖人隊前教頭史考特在日前遭到開除後，今天首度談到此事時表示，在接獲球團通知時自己是完全嚇傻，不過對於昔日子弟兵華頓將頂替自己的工作，他也大方送上祝福。

「我當時只覺得，開除會是最後的一個選擇。」伴隨湖人度過隊史最難堪的兩個球季，並親手歡送了頭牌球星布萊恩，史考特卻在布萊恩離隊不久後，隨即跟上他的腳步打包返鄉，「我當時的心情就是『哇！』然後米契（湖人總管）跟我說了幾分鐘後，我就搖搖手說我將會在這週清空我的辦公室。」

談起遭到球團開除一事，史考特表示自己是驚訝大於失望，甚至在當晚徹夜難眠，不過隔天早上他對自己說：「史考特，你現在該想想自己的下一步了。」
